Oversight and accountability committee looking at the evacuation and subsequent collapse of the Afghan government.
Representative James Comer of Kentucky, Chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, announced a hearing for April 19 that will focus on how the withdrawal from Afghanistan was handled. The hearing will examine factors that led to the quick collapse of the Afghan government and how the evacuation of military and civilians was handled.
The White House conducted its own investigation, faulting the previous administration for issues with the withdrawal.
Congressman Comer stated, “President Biden and his administration’s decisions during the Afghanistan withdrawal led to the deaths of 13 servicemembers, left Americans completely stranded, allowed U.S. military equipment to fall into Taliban hands, jeopardized progress made by Afghan women, and destabilized the entire region.“
He continued, “The House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing with SIGAR as well as Inspectors General for the Department of Defense, Department of State, and U.S. Agency for International Development to examine their work on the factors that led to the collapse of Afghanistan. I look forward to their testimony as we work to hold this administration accountable and get Americans’ answers.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Representative Comer as he chairs the Oversight and Accountability Committee.
- For the members of the committee as they hold the hearing into the Afghanistan withdrawal.
- For the people of Afghanistan as they endure the reversal of freedoms and civil rights.
